Injured
Suicide bomber hits D.I. Khan Hospital: two journalists injured
  Thirty-two people, seven policemen and two health officials among them, were killed and 55 others injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the emergency ward of the District Headquarters Hospital here on Tuesday. Some of the injured, including several policemen, health workers and two journalists, were taken to the Combined Military Hospital and private hospitals. A few journalists present in the hospital in connection with the killing of the activist are feared to have also sustained injuries in the blast. Injured journalists are Mustanser photographer for Express News and a reporter of foreign news agency Reuter.

Reporters stage token walkout from PA session
  The journalists covering the Punjab Assembly proceedings on Tuesday staged a token walkout to press the government to announce a final date for the completion of Journalists Housing Colony. They came out of the Press Gallery and after some time returned to their assignment as Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan assured them of giving final date after consulting Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He also said all the issues relating to the colony would he taken up on priority basis and every effort would be made to resolve them. He also said that on his direction an employee of Gujranwala-based magistrate was put behind bars for attempting to grab a plot in Journalists Housing Colony at Harbanspura. He said the government was committed to eradicating Qabza groups from the society and no leniency would be shown to land grabbers. Later, talking to reporters outside the Punjab Assembly, Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed said his party would contribute maximum to the completion of the journalists' colony. He added he would discuss the issue with the Punjab chief minister.

  Prim Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has termed the media his opponent but said, “this opposition is very close to my heart.” He felicitated the media on the new era of democracy in country that would greatly help in better atmosphere of working, both for media and government.

  Meeting on journalists’ colonies soon
  The board of directors of all the journalists’ housing colonies in Punjab is likely to meet within a week or so under chairmanship of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to discuss issues pertaining to irregularities in the affairs. A senior official of the provincial government told Dawn that chief minister had approved convening the meeting of BOD, comprising the presidents of Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi press club the finance and information secretaries.

  CM orders to deliver allotment letter before Sep 27th
  Chief Minister NWFP Amir Hader Khan Hoti has ordered to deliver allotment letters to journalists in media colony Peshawar before 27th September. All journalists will be given 10 mirla plots. Chief Minister ordered to start development work in media colony. He was talking to a delegation of governing body of Peshawar press club.

  Journalist deprived of cash, cell phone
  Two armed motorcyclists robbed a journalist near Radio Pakistan building here Monday night and escaped. Qaisar Khan, crime reporter of an Urdu language daily, was waiting for two other media persons outside the Radio Pakistan building near Malik Saad Shaheed flyover.

Increasing use of cellphone data in crime-solving
  With the widespread use of mobile phone technology, the analysis of cellular phone call and short messaging service (SMS) data has become a significant component of police investigation procedures and constitutes an expansion of the traditional methods of cracking cases, Dawn has learnt. While the old practice of detaining and/or torturing a suspect or members of his family remains part and parcel of police investigation techniques, the analysis of call and SMS details saves time and may provide the missing links in criminal cases, remarked an investigator.

  Obituary
Journalist passes away
  A senior journalist, Mohammed Ali, died after protracted illness here on Tuesday. Funeral prayers were held at local mosque in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and he was laid to rest at a grave yard in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near former milk plant at Essa Nagri. The funeral was largely attended by relatives as well as a large number of journalists. Ali has left behind a widow, four sons and three daughters.
